A Createcation is a destination writing retreat designed for the humans who think best when they leave their ordinary life behind. Here's what it is, how it works, and why some books only get written when you go somewhere to write them.

What Is a Createcation — And Could One Change Your Book?

There’s a version of your book that only exists somewhere else.

Not because the content isn’t already in you — it is. Not because you need inspiration or a muse or a moment of divine clarity. But because sometimes the distance between your ordinary life and the story you’re trying to tell is too small. The noise is too close. The responsibilities are too loud. The version of yourself that’s running the business, managing the team, answering the messages — that version doesn’t write the book. It doesn’t have time. It doesn’t have space.

A Createcation changes that.

What a Createcation Is

A Createcation is a destination writing retreat — immersive, strategic, and designed specifically for the humans who are carrying books they haven’t been able to write at their desks.

The concept is simple: you leave. You go somewhere the light is different. You work with me in a focused, intensive format that compresses months of writing work into days. You come home with real, substantial book content — and the momentum to finish.

Createcations aren’t writing holidays. They’re working retreats with a specific deliverable. Every session is purposeful. Every location is chosen because it does something to your thinking that your office can’t.

Why Location Changes Your Book

This isn’t woo. There’s genuine cognitive science behind why physical environment affects creative output. New environments interrupt habitual thinking patterns. Reduced cognitive load from familiar responsibilities frees up working memory. The brain in a novel environment makes new connections that the brain at a familiar desk doesn’t.

Every writer who has ever gone somewhere to write knows this intuitively. The words come differently when you’re looking at the ocean, or the mountains, or a city you’ve never been in before. The stories surface that stayed buried in the daily noise.

For books — especially memoirs, personal narratives, and books built on lived experience — this shift can be transformative.

How a Createcation Works

Before you arrive

Createcations are a kickstart to your book project. They work best as we define your very own Word Magic Method™. While the primary focus is typically on the Write On! phase. First, we’ll establish the architecture and what’s needed. Then we focus on immersive, focused output.

During the retreat

Days are structured around morning writing sessions, afternoon refinement, and evening conversations that surface the deeper material — the stories you haven’t told, the insights you’ve undervalued, the things you know that you haven’t yet realised belong in the book.

I work with you directly throughout. Sometimes as a group but more often in a 1:1 format. In the way that actually moves books forward: one writer, one story, total focus.

After you leave

You don’t leave empty-handed. You leave with substantial new material, clear momentum, and the experience of having written in a way that felt completely different from your usual process. Most clients describe Createcation days as the most productive writing of their lives.

Who Createcations Are For

The founders, executives, coaches, and experts who feel the book constantly but can never quite reach it. The authors who have started and stopped, who have notes and outlines and half-finished chapters scattered across three different documents. The humans who write differently somewhere else — who’ve always known this about themselves but never had a framework to make it actionable.

And honestly: anyone who has spent years not writing the book they know they have. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is simply leave.

Some books don’t get written at your desk. They get written somewhere the light is different.

If you've been paying attention to publishing news lately, you've seen the headlines. Fiction is booming. Nonfiction is declining. Romantasy is outselling memoirs. And somewhere in the back of your mind, a question has formed that you haven't quite let yourself finish: 'Maybe this isn't the right time for my book.' Let me stop you right there. Because the story the headlines are telling is not the story that applies to you.
