Sound familiar?

You, at every dinner partysince forever.

“How’s the book going?”
“Slowly!” (laughs) (dies a little)

The chapter 3 you’ve started on 3 different devices. The notebook you bought just for this book (still blank). The holidays you swore you’d write through. Focus is the thing you’re short of, and a harbour view does more for it than any Zoom background ever has.

Meet your guide

The 4 days, roughly

4 days, and none of them wasted.

01

Thursday · Arrival

Land, dinner, and the big “so what’s your book actually about?” conversation.

02

Friday · The foundations

Foundations by morning. Writing and your first 1:1 with me by afternoon.

03

Saturday · The deep end

Long writing blocks and 1:1s on your actual pages. Word counts get silly.

04

Sunday · The splash-down

Launch, marketing and your finish plan. Lunch. Hugs. Airport.

The setting

A harbour that sparkles.A book that finally does too.

December in Sydney is long light, warm evenings and an ocean swim never far away. The harbour does the showing off. You do the writing. (Sorry... someone has to.)

The venue

Handpicked, and revealed to accepted applicants 4 weeks out. I choose it myself and I don’t choose it from a website.

✦

Your own room

Your own bedroom, with shared bathrooms unless you’re coming with a friend. Jet lag is plot twist enough. Your bed shouldn’t be another one.

✦

Every meal

All of them, built around any dietary needs you flag early. You won’t spend a single writing block deciding where to eat.

Real rooms, real writers

No stock photos. These are mine, from my last trip: writers, clients and 1 very famous rubber duck.

You get the build. Who it’s for, what it promises, how it holds together, and your first pages actually written.

✦

The stalled draft

You get the rescue. What’s working, what’s quietly killing it, and how to get the thing moving again.

Airport. Sand still in your shoes.A book with a spine.

A reader, a structure and a chapter 1. Next time someone asks how the book’s going, you’ll answer with a chapter number.

Getting here

The one thingyou book yourself.

Travel isn’t included, so here’s what to know before you book flights.

✦

Flying in

Sydney Airport (SYD) is about 15 minutes from the city by train, with direct flights from across North America, Asia and New Zealand. It’s a long haul from most places, so give yourself a day to land before Thursday. (Jet lag is a terrible co-author.)

✦

Timing your flights

Arrive Thursday afternoon or evening for dinner that night. The retreat wraps after lunch on Sunday, so book a Sunday evening flight or stay over and fly Monday. A Sunday morning flight means missing the part that makes the rest of it worth it.

✦

Entry and insurance

Australia’s entry requirements depend on your passport, and most visitors need an ETA or eVisitor visa before they fly, so check well before booking. Your deposit is locked in the moment you book, so travel insurance is worth having for both your flights and your spot.

Before you apply

The questionsI get every time.

Who is in the room?

5 other writers and me. Some arrive with a blank page, some with a stalled draft. Nobody waits for anybody, because your 1:1 time is built around your book.

What if my draft is a mess?

Then you’re in exactly the right room. A messy draft is material. (So is no draft. Bring whatever you’ve got.)

What’s included in the $7,500?

Accommodation, every meal, all the teaching, your 1:1 coaching sessions and the closing dinner. Flights and travel to Sydney are yours.

Do I need to be a good writer?

No. You need a book you can’t stop thinking about and a willingness to be told the truth about it.

When do I find out where it is?

4 weeks out, once you’re accepted. The venue is handpicked and it isn’t somewhere you could have booked yourself.

What happens after the 4 days?

You leave with pages and a launch plan. Sunday is entirely about what it takes to get the book out and sell it. Pick the Full Experience and the next 12 coaching sessions take it all the way to a finished manuscript.

Why only 6 people?

1:1 coaching on an actual manuscript doesn’t scale. At 12 it becomes a workshop, and workshops are where books go to stall.

How do I pay?

Pay in full or in 3 instalments, for either membership. Pay in full for the 4 days and you get x1 60-min pre-retreat strategy call PLUS x2 bonus 60-min coaching calls. Pay in full for the Full Experience and you get x1 60-min pre-retreat strategy session PLUS x2 bonus 60-min coaching sessions during the writing process.
