Peter Merrett had Wonderlicious in bits of writing for 5 years before I came along. In his own words, the first 3 or so years of the manuscript were “an incoherent mass (and mess) of words.” Plenty of material. No shape. That’s the most common place I meet people, and honestly my favourite, because the hard part (living it) is already done.

We met weekly for 9 months. My job was structure and nerve: finding the throughline, deciding what the book was for and who it was for, and getting Peter to stop sanding the edges off his own voice.

Wonderlicious was first published by Entourage Media and Simon & Schuster Australia and landed on a bestseller list. Then Peter was named 2024 Australia Speaker of the Year. That order isn’t a coincidence: the book became the reason people booked him.
