Memoir Ghostwriter
One day somebody in your family is going to want to know exactly what happened, and they are going to want to know it after you are no longer available for questions. That is the real deadline. Nobody puts it in a calendar.
You have lived through things that most people only read about. The trouble is that a life does not arrive in chapter order, and the moment you sit down to write it, you discover that remembering and writing are 2 completely different skills. I have the second one. You have the first. That is a very good trade.

What a memoir actually is.
A memoir is not everything that happened to you in order. That is a chronology, and chronologies are where good lives go to become boring.
A memoir is one thread pulled out of a whole life and followed all the way through. The lost decade. The business that nearly killed you. The person you became after. Pick the thread and the rest of the book knows where to stand.
Choosing that thread is the single highest-value thing I do, and it usually happens in the first 3 conversations.
Apply to work together
How a memoir gets written with me.
- The thread. 2 long conversations where I ask questions nobody has asked you before and listen for the one story the rest of the book hangs from.
- The map. A chapter-by-chapter outline so you can see the whole book before a word is written. You change it now, while changing it is free.
- The interviews. Recorded sessions, roughly 2 hours a week. You talk. I ask. You go on tangents. The tangents are frequently the best chapters.
- The draft. Chapters arrive in batches so you are never waiting 8 months to see whether this is working. You read, you correct the facts, you tell me when I have your mother wrong.
- The polish. Line edit, structural pass, and the read-aloud test. If it does not sound like you out loud, it is not finished.

What it looks like when it lands.
An author holding the physical book for the first time reacts the same way every single time, whether they ran a company or raised 6 kids or both. There is a pause, then a small noise, then they turn it over to look at the back.
That moment is the job. Everything else is logistics.
See the shelfThe 4 questions I will ask you in the first hour.
Question 1
Who is this for?
If the answer is everyone, we have work to do. If the answer is my granddaughter when she turns 30, we have a book.
Question 2
What do you not want to write about?
The thing you named is almost always in the book. It usually lands in chapter 7 and it is usually the reason people finish it.
Question 3
What does the reader know by the end?
A memoir that only reports is a diary. A memoir that teaches without lecturing is a book people hand to somebody else.
Question 4
What happens after it exists?
Speaking. Legacy. A family that finally has the record straight. The answer changes how the book is built, so we settle it early.
What comes afterAbout the other people in it.
Real people appear in real memoirs. Handled well, that is powerful. Handled badly, it is a letter from somebody’s lawyer and a family Christmas you will hear about for 10 years. I will show you where the line sits, what to change, what to cut and when a conversation in advance is worth more than any legal wording.

Questions I get asked.
Will it still sound like me?
Yes, and that is the entire job. I record every session. I keep your rhythms, your slang, your swearing and the way you land a punchline. Readers who know you should hear you on page 1.
What if I do not remember everything?
Nobody does. Memory arrives sideways, usually 20 minutes into a conversation about something else. That is what the interviews are for.
How much time do I have to give it?
Roughly 2 hours a week of interviews for the first few months, then reading time. I do the writing.
Can I write about people who are still alive?
Usually yes, with care. There is a right way to handle real people and a way that gets you a letter from a lawyer. I will walk you through the difference.
What if parts of it are painful?
Then we go slowly and you stay in control of what makes the final cut. I have sat with a lot of hard stories. Nothing you say will shock me.
Does my life have to be extraordinary?
No. Specific beats extraordinary every time. The books that fail are the vague ones.
Who owns the book?
You do. Your name is on the cover, you hold the copyright, and my name appears only if you want it to.
How long does a memoir take?
Most land between 6 and 12 months from first interview to finished manuscript, depending on how much material exists and how fast approvals come back.
